The system
- Decide the SKU before you decide the price. “I want Pokémon cards” is how you overpay.
- Check Pokémon Center and sold-by-Amazon first. If it is at MSRP, you are done.
- If it is not, open sold listings on eBay and market + shipping on TCGplayer. The last 10 solds are the price.
- Never buy the first listing under a viral tweet. That is the trap.
- If you are ripping, run pack EV. If the pack costs more than the EV, you are paying for a show.
Red flags
- Amazon third-party “new” ETBs with no photos of the seal.
- Preorders more than 30% over MSRP more than three weeks out.
- Sellers with no ratings on a $200+ single.
- Any listing that says “invest now” in the title.
